Hi all, today I would like to share with you a personal project, that has nothing to do with IT, but a lot in common with refactoring ideas.
Music composition and orchestration, is my great passion, and in the last years I have been putting it apart for more other concrete things. But I never garbaged the idea to continue to compose music, and maybe one day do it at professional level, so finally I decided to bring back to life this passion and here it comes: The First Touch.
The idea is to record all my compositions, but because this needs a certain budget I decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign, and so I decided for Indiegogo.
Realizing this project has been like refactoring my life, day by day I had to change the schedule of my ‘free’ time, and a small step per day approach has permitted to arrive at the end.
Like when developing an IT system, is not possible to realize perfectly a project from the beginning. And so I would like to make a small parallelism between life and software, and list some advices I would like to share, that for me have been really important to let me arrive at the end of this project:
- As for requirements, life objectives should be clear before to start any activity
- Think on iterations, if an objective is too difficult, maybe should be decomposed in smaller objectives
- Respect the planning and schedule very small daily task, competitive deadlines are not always easy to realize when they must be done your free time
- There are a lot of design principles that fit well in life projects management
- Modularity can halp a lot, specially to define clearly the boundary between two close objective
- Priorities are the basis of the success, because is true that we are multi tasking, but I really think that to do something good only one thing must have prioirity ONE
